Diary 7.5.1883

Monday May 7

I did not get up so soon, sick again. John Edwin had been on deck when I wakened, then I got up and dressed Emmeline and we had porridge and tea on deck, our own tea because the ship’s tea is fusty. Emmeline has been in the cabin with the Captain again and got some sugar in her pocket and some jam and bread. His wife was with him on the last voyage and he buried two of his children, I think that is why he takes to her so much. Mr Hutton, the man from Saltair is very ill we are afraid he is never going to land. We are going very well again today, I hope we shall continue I am tired of being so long on the water. We had pork and soup for dinner, tea and bread for tea. 200 miles.
