Diary 3.5.1883

Thursday May 3

A beautiful morning, three ships in sight, one of them passed very near we could see the men walking about on her, she was homeward bound but we had no chance to send any letter by her. It is very hot today, a good drink of cold spring water would be very nice, the water we have to drink is stuff from condensed sea water, the more you drink and the more you want to drink, it has no taste of water.
There is a lot of Bradfordians among the young men and they come in to the married part of the ship at night and we have some home talk and we’re together, it passes the time very well.
