Diary 4.5.1883

Friday May 4

Very little wind this morning the sea is almost as calm as glass, the skipper is getting very angry about not getting on fast enough. He says that when the wind comes we will know for he will make all sail and the ship almost under water. We shall have to remain below deck or get wet through. Lat. 12.4S Long. 30.13W, distance 82 miles, a splendid sunset this evening never seen one like it on land.
